Being a doctor or medical personnel is a noble profession. We work to heal, save, and give hope. But behind that big meaning, we also face reality: long working hours, high pressure, and financial uncertainty in the future. Many of us are so patient-focused, we forget that financial health is also part of well-being.
In general, the medical profession does offer stability and high social rewards. But in Indonesia, the unequal distribution of medical personnel, incomes that have not been proportional to workload, and limited facilities make many doctors have to work in several places at once. This condition often makes us physically and financially tired, without having time to think about long-term investments.
On the other hand, the level of financial literacy of doctors and medical personnel, both in the world and in Indonesia, is still relatively low to moderate. Many peers do not yet have an in-depth understanding of how financial products work, investment risks, or the importance of asset diversification. As a result, some are trapped in consumptive lifestyles or even become victims of fraudulent investments.
In fact, investing is not just about adding money, but about securing the future. By investing early—from simple instruments like mutual funds, government bonds, to stocks—doctors and medical personnel can build financial freedom. It is this freedom that allows us to serve patients calmly, without economic pressure.
Then where do we start? We can start following Instagram accounts that educate finances, such as @doctorbisa, @dissectingmoney, @kafamedika, and @dandung.bawono. Most of us still focus on passive investing, while only a small percentage venture into the stock market or direct business. But the main key before investing is to manage cash flow better. Separate cash flow into four categories: (a) daily needs; (b) debt, installments, taxes, insurance, and za at; (c) entertainment and self-actualization; and (d) savings, reserves, and investments. The healthier our cash flow, the easier it is for all those needs to be met. No need to worry or FOMOwith popular investments — the most important thing is to understand the risks wisely.
We've been fighting to save other people's lives every day—now it's time to save our own future. Investment is not a luxury choice for medical personnel, but a wise need.
